Royal SNUB: How Queen and Prince Philip ‘cold-shouldered’ Edward and Mrs Simpson – Express

Wallis Simpson was dubbed a “calculating social climber” who was "the cause of Britain's first abdication crisis" which nearly destroyed the monarchy, in a New York Post article. Journalist Pamela Gwyn Kripke revealed in the 2018 article that the Royal Family even “avoided” the 1937 wedding of Wallis and Edward. Royal historian Michael Bloch revealed in his book “The Duchess of Windsor” how ten years later, Wallis Simpson and Edward VIII received no invitation to then Princess Elizabeth's wedding to Prince Philip. The 2007 biography claims: “The Windsors received no invitation to the wedding of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in November 1947, [which] confirmed that they could expect to be cold-shouldered by the Royal Family in England for the foreseeable future." Barry Everingham’s 2011 article for The Independent Australia states: “The woman [Wallis] was studiously ignored and treated abominably by the Queen and most of her family until she died a hideous lingering death in Paris”. He added: "[She] was then given a semi-royal funeral at Windsor Castle, during which the name of the dead Duchess was never once mentioned."
